Senior accounting positions include senior accounting manager, accounting manager, senior auditor, accounting director, senior payroll manager, senior accounts director, financial accounting manager, financial accounting director, tax senior, senior accounting associate, and senior accounting specialist, among others.The typical duties for senior positions in accounting include keeping records, training junior accountants, providing accounting recommendations when required, internal auditing, external auditing (if the employer is an auditing firm), management of accounting operations, and managing a team of accountants.
Senior accounting positions are available at medium- and large-sized organizations, at accounting agencies, and in auditing departments. The educational qualifications required may vary depending on the job profile, but the generally accepted qualifications are a BS degree in accounting; qualification as a certified public accountant (CPA) or certified general accountant (CGA); or qualification by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
