While you are still in university taking the courses for your Bachelor’s degree in accounting, you can start looking for accounting jobs. As part of your degree program, you will have to undertake one or two work terms in which you will work in an accounting firm and learn the day-to-day routine. Many of these firms take students interns with a view to hiring them when they graduate from their degree program. It is essential to do well in your work term and you may even have a job offer before you finish your course.

There are also ads for accounting jobs posted in the classified section of newspapers and in accounting journals and magazines. The main office of the accounting faculty at the university may also have a list of employers hiring recent accounting graduates. You will find many accounting jobs for every part of the country and in international organizations if you do an online search. One way you can narrow your search for a particular city or state is to include that name in your search phrase to limit the number of irrelevant job postings that your receive. You can also register with an online recruiting company so that when an accounting job is posted you will receive an email informing you of the posting.

Quite often accounting firms will contact a university and ask to interview students who are in the job market. You can let your professors know that you are trying to fins accounting jobs so that if they know of companies they will let you know. Accounting firms from out of state often hold job fairs at universities that have good reputations for the quality of accounting students graduating from its programs. Here you can get a chance to meet some of the executives and human resources personnel of the companies and pass in your job application in person. Many of these recruiters will schedule an interview with you right away and you may receive an immediate job offer.



Whenever you find a posting for an accounting job fro a company with which you are not familiar, you should research the company to find out what products or services it deals with and what the company policies are. Look at the list of key executives of the company and their qualifications, how long the company has been in business and if it has had any recent significant achievements.

Check with government agencies and departments when you want to find an accounting job. Many of these departments hire on a part-time basis with a view to hiring full time at a later date. This may not exactly be the first job you get, but it will give you experience that you can put on your resume for future full time positions. However, with the increase in the businesses that are developing almost on a daily basis there is no shortage of accounting positions. Just about all companies have older staff that is now retiring and this means there will be job openings in the future.
