Demand Media is seeking a motivated self-starter to work in a fun environment with an energetic team. This position is located in Santa Monica, CA. This is a high profile position providing advice to executive leadership, audit and finance committees, and the Board of Directors, regarding all tax aspects of the operation of company, including financial reporting, project planning and development, local and international compliance, mergers and acquisitions, audits, shareholder interfaces and considerations, systems, internal control, budgeting, and business planning. Responsibilities:
Prepare and/or review of the consolidated tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 for all periodic, quarterly and annual SEC reporting forms and overall domestic and international tax compliance.
Prepare and/or review reconciliations of deferred income taxes, income tax payable and income tax expense accounts and other tax related accounts.
Responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and controls related to accounting for income taxes and to maintain an effective control structure over all aspects of the tax process.
Ensure accurate filing of consolidated federal, state and local income tax returns, state sales and use tax returns, property tax returns and other business related filings.
Identify and develop technical tax accounting memos and appropriate documentation for the Company’s tax position/treatment of tax accounting matters including uncertain tax positions.
Coordinate and ensure accurate filing of Tax Information Reporting Filings for the Company.
Develop and design overall tax planning strategies and policies and assist in their implementation.
Oversee the structuring and planning for the creation or reorganizations of international entities.
Oversight of global transfer pricing documentation and internal communication regarding transfer pricing policies.
Provide income tax accounting support for acquisitions and divestitures.
Coordinate with business units, Treasury, Legal, Accounting and other corporate functions.
Communicate, monitor and suggest actions related to tax legislative and regulatory developments.
Manage outside tax advisors, including attorneys, accounting firms, and other tax consultants, to ensure the most efficient tax position for firm, manage interfaces with government agencies regarding tax positions and issues.
Cultivate relationship across all business and finance areas to encourage dialogue on potential tax and accounting consequences
Required skills/experience
Bachelors in Accounting, Tax, Finance or related field.
Minimum of seven to ten years tax experience with federal and state provisioning, tax compliance and sales tax experience in a public accounting and/or corporate environment.
Polished verbal and written communication skills.
Strong technical tax accounting and provision skills.
Hands on working style with the ability to multi-task.
Must have a great attitude, be self-motivated, and self-organized and ready to make an impact in a fast growing organization
