The Division of Finance and Administration at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President for Finance & Administration and Controller. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the AVP & Controller is a key leadership position in the division and for the college. The successful candidate will join a team of strong professionals who manage ongoing operations of a complex organization. The Division strives to provide leadership and services to enhance and promote responsible stewardship of the College's physical, human, technology, and financial resources. The next AVP & Controller will be a student-centered leader, providing direction, strategic leadership, evaluation, and support for several areas of operation including accounting, student accounts, business services (comprised of contracts, procurement and travel, events, and college mail and supply room services), internal control, call center, financial wellness, financial aid, sustainability, and sponsored programs. Additionally, the AVP & Controller will be an integral partner to academic and administrative units across the institution, responding to emerging issues and trends, promoting the development of streamlined processes and procedures, and supporting effective operations balanced with compliance and risk management.

Job Description:

Responsibilities of the AVP for Finance and Administration & Controller include but are not limited to:

oversight of the College's internal control program, including strategic compliance planning, risk management, and required annual reporting; liaising with SUNY legal counsel New York State Attorney General's office for non-personnel legal issues; drafting and recommending financial and student services policies, procedures and guidelines; assisting with policy interpretation, risk assessment, and the application of compliance guidelines; general problem solving in the context of operational changes, challenges, and new initiatives; managing escalated customer concerns arising from operational areas; participating in enrollment projections and related management activities; promoting use and integration of technologies and tools that support student financial services, financial reporting, and effective decision-making; providing financial reporting as needed, with insight and context to assist the College's executive leadership; ensuring that core financial processes and internal controls are maintained, audit related activities are properly prepared for and coordinated, and the highest standards of customer service are promoted.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

bachelor's degree in business administration or management, accounting, finance, or related field; eight years or more of progressively responsible financial management experience; at least three years supervisory experience in financial management or related field; experience leading collaborative projects/initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

broad knowledge of financial, business, and internal control principles and experience applying this knowledge to solve problems, manage risk, and produce results; highly effective communication skills and an ability to clearly present complex information; ability to analyze, interpret, and organize complex data to provide information in support of decision-making; policy development, improvement, and interpretation; experience in higher education finance at a director level or higher; masters' degree in business or related field; and experience working with and serving diverse populations.
