Oversee the daily
operations of the follow up area to ensure timely resolution of billed claims. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Oversee the daily operations of the Follow up area to
ensure timely resolution of billed claims, trend billing concerns related
to coding, charge posting and reimbursement, and provide feedback to the
appropriate groups as related to such trendsOversee the daily operations of the Customer Service and
Collections teams including all external vendors related to this area,
i.e. patient balance processing, statement processing, third party
collections.Assist the Director in ensuring that the Mission, Vision, and Values
of Mercy – Des Moines are visual in the operation and direction of
assigned areas of responsibility.Schedule and supervise all employees in assigned areas of
responsibility.Ensure that policies are understood and followed by staff and all
external vendors.  Assist the
Director with the responsibility for personnel issues (i.e., interviewing,
motivation, coaching, disciplinary action and performance appraisals). Evaluate individual staff members training and make appropriate
recommendations for additional training.Serve as a resource to colleagues and staff for complex and/or
escalated account questions and/or concerns.Establish individual and team specific productivity standards.  Monitor and report productivity by
posting results, as appropriate.Monitor and report productivity and QA for all contracted vendors.
Report areas of concerns, as identified, related to vendor performance to
the Director.Establish a quality control review program for each staff member
specific to individual workflow.Promote working as a team to achieve strategic and financial goals
and the objectives of the department by recognizing problems and addressing
them in a timely manner, engaging in honest and professional conversation
with colleagues and staff.  Help
coordinate solutions intra- and interdepartmentally.Collaborate and act as a liaison with the physician groups in order
to identify ongoing revenue cycle issues and actively participate in
revenue cycle-related process improvement initiatives.Demonstrates the ability to understand
and effectively utilize a highly complex billing system(s). Maintains current knowledge of all
Federal, State and compliance regulations related to billing and insurance
as required based on the scope of the position.Demonstrates an understanding of HCFA
1500 claim forms, CPT, ICD.9 and HCPCS codes specific to insurance carrier
requirements as required based on scope of the position.Maintains clear and concise
documentation in claims and/or online notes as required based on the scope
of the position.

 

MARGINAL
FUNCTIONS:

Work includes cross coverage in other areas of department as needed.Participates in performance improvement projects and activities as
needed.Work includes all other miscellaneous office duties/projects as
assigned.Work hours may vary throughout the month/year as required based on
scope of the position.






','!*!MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

At least two years of successful experience in healthcare billing,
customer accounts or insurance claims. 
Experience in both the front and back office processes preferred.2 to 3 years previous supervisory experience required.Post high school education may be considered instead of supervisory
experience.Professional level of knowledge in account, business management, or
like fields, which is equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing
a two year college program.
