POSITION OVERVIEWThe Sr. Accounting Manager will be a member of the Corporate Controlling team reporting directly to the Assistant Controller. The role is primarily responsible for analyzing the GAAP financial results of individual reporting locations across the globe as well as reporting the consolidated financial results to management on a monthly basis. The role is also focused on ensuring a strong internal control environment and compliance with company policies and US GAAP. The individual must possess leadership ability, strong analytical skills, enjoy a challenging work environment and the opportunity to exercise initiative, be self-motivated, and demonstrate an aptitude and skill to proactively find solutions. This role will supervise a small team, leverage third party services and work through a global finance matrix organization to deliver results. This position must also influence work processes and reporting across the globe which requires understanding of different cultures, finesse, patience and strong communication skills.TARGETED OUTCOMES/12 MONTH SUCCESS BENCHMARKGrow and develop the accounting team talent and skillsActive leadership and support of the Finance transformation process to free up resources for value-add activities and analysis, which includes process re-design, automation of manual work, and SAP enhancementsStrengthen internal controls and ensure effective roll out of finance policy training programsKEY RESPONSIBILITIESLead accounting monthly close and consolidated financial reporting and analysis.Review of monthly financial statements relating to HQ, domestic and foreign locations to identify unusual items and business trends including following up to resolve any issues and questions.Manage general accounting, intercompany reconciliations, and consolidating entries for monthly closing process.Manage and analyze monthly and quarterly internal reporting process for distribution to executive management, develop key performance metrics and analysis of variances and trends, and prepare monthly flash report of actual vs. forecast.Support the research needs of technical accounting issues and its impact on the company and its business units, plus ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP guidelines.Support internal control initiatives plus any special projects as necessary.Manage both the quarterly and annual external audit process.Develop monthly closing schedule, communicate schedule to all affected finance organizations throughout the company and monitor adherence to achieve deadlines for consolidated financials.Ensure global account reconciliations are prepared in a timely and accurate manner.Work closely with other functional areas including Tax, Treasury, HR, Legal, and Financial Planning & Analysis to provide financial support, solve issues, and ensure effective communication.Re-design work processes to achieve efficiencies and re-direct efforts to higher value work.  Interface with all levels of senior and middle management and learn the business.REPORTS TOReports directly to the Assistant ControllerTEAMPeers: Tax Manager, Finance Operations ControllersDirect Reports: Team of 4 accounting professionalsREQUIRED EXPERIENCEBS in accounting required10 years of accounting experience (CPA or MBA a plus)Must have demonstrated experience in leading a teamExperience with large CPA firm and/or a world class manufacturer a plusSAP experience strongly preferredREQUIRED SKILLSDemonstrated experience leading and developing a team and working effectively across an organizationAbility to independently resolve complex problems where analysis requires the in-depth evaluation of numerous factorsAbility to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation of criterion for obtaining resultsExperience leveraging third party expertiseMust be able to work with a diverse group of people and interact with internal and external stakeholders including customers and vendorsMust have excellent time management skills, self-directed, and able to work in a fast paced environmentAble to handle multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detailExcellent oral, written, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skillsWhy work at Ascend?If you are looking for a career with one of the plastics industry’s most enlightened employers, Ascend Performance Materials offers an opportunity to develop a true sense of fulfillment and pride in your achievements.Ascend provides an exciting platform from which you, your family and your community will benefit.
