Job Description

Thermo Fisher is looking for a Sr. Strategic Project Manager Finance based from our site in UK Horsham or US Centre Vally who will lead the design of new business processes, ensure new supporting technologies support both existing and new business processes and implement transformational and strategic finance projects across the Clinical Trials Division. Specifically, the Sr. Strategic Project Manager will lead key components of process development and will work with the Strategic Program Director, global project team and the business to develop, drive and govern invoicing related process standardization, simplification and controls across the division. The role requires flexible hours and travel to accommodate the global nature of the position and the ability to work in a cross-functional environment under a matrix structure.

What will you do ?

With input from the global project team and the business, define and drive implementation of new global operating processes, procedures and controls relating to billable event notification, invoicing, revenue recognition, revenue leakage and client budget management.

Manage the planning of business projects to implement new operating processes, procedures and controls across the division.

Work with management, client services, finance and IT teams to drive and support the business project execution.

Initiate the involvement of appropriate departments and supervise the work streams and SMEs throughout the requirements, development. testing, training, implementation and maintenance stages of the projects.

Ensure that project deliverables meet quality standards and project requirements and that company policies and regulations are followed.

Create and maintain project documentations.

Define and track metrics; maintain unified Dashboards and report on global project progress. Utilize rigorous risk identification and mitigation process on an ongoing basis and convey effectively to internal management.

Assist with the creation of project ARs and manage the tracking and forecasting of costs.

Actively participate in project change management activities; promote key aspects of the project vision with project and business partners

Engage and lead client facing meetings where support is needed.

What we are looking for

Requires strong organizational, planning, verbal, written and numerical skills with the ability to analyze and define solutions and manage multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines.

Requires good communication skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and stakeholders.

Proven experience of working collaboratively in global multi-functional teams

Utilizes financial business acumen and relevant experience to assist in the definition and documentation of business/functional requirements and understand how these requirements apply to complex enterprise systems and interfaces

Embraces change and quickly adapts to new situations, changes in direction, and priorities.

Ability to overcomes obstacles and achieve key outcomes - follows through to get things done and delivers what is promised.

Requires the ability to build financial models, create assumptions and summarize business impacts for senior leadership’s decision making purposes

10-25% international and domestic travel.


Requires accredited college, university or recognized professional degree in Finance.

Qualified accountant / CPA preferred

Requires 5 years of accounting experience with demonstrated career progression and development.

Requires 3 years of successful experience in project management and/or global process standardization ideally including enterprise systems implementation or integration projects

Requires strong interpersonal and communication skills to include excellent relationship building.

Requires proficiency in personal computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

Requires proven experience with stakeholders in a dynamic environment.

Sarbanes Oxley experience essential

US GAAP or IAS experience desirable
