Corporate Controller

General Description / Objective
We're searching for a Controller to join our Finance team.  The ideal candidate is someone who inspires a high-performing accounting team and ensures consistent corporate financial strategy through a range of avenues such as managing and allocating accounts, financial statements, and income tax data.  This role will be key to the development of people, process and technology to ensure accurate data is readily available for management decision making, legal compliance, internal and external reporting.

This is a key position on the Management team. The position will report directly to the President and will be highly visible. We are seeking a dynamic candidate who is a self-thinker and motivator. This candidate should demonstrate leadership qualities and solid accounting experience. Additionally, this person must be able to work under specific timelines and be able to delegate and distribute work throughout the accounting department.    I.    Job Responsibilities

  •  Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives      
  • Lead, support and manage the accounting team while driving efficiency
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate all audit/review/tax preparation activity
  • Oversee and own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements
  • Deliver timely and accurate results reporting to Management
  • Lead relationships with external auditors, accounting/tax advisors, and internal controls with the CFO
  • Provide support for the annual budgeting and planning process
  • work on monthly forecasting against budget including cash flow projections
  • Coordinate banking relations and maintenance of investments
  • Interact with Senior Executives and the extended leadership team regarding financial matters as needed

 II.    Accounting and Controls

       •  Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
       •  Manage the accounting department
       •  Assist Human Resource department in the oversight of employee benefit plans
  III.   Financial Information

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements within 5 days of the applicable period end
  • Report monthly financial results to the company CFO and President
  •  Accountable for the accurate and timely interpretation of GAAP accounting standards

   IV.   Risk Management

       •  Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
       •  Monitor legal issues affecting the industry and the company
       •  Provide assistance in the maintenance of appropriate insurance coverage
       •  Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
       •  Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of partnership agreements, auditors and agencies
       •  Report risk issues to the CFO and President
       •  Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and assist in the implementation of recommendations

    V.   Funding

  • Assist in the short term investing of working capital funds
  • Assist in the Investment of escrowed reserve funds

    VI.   Professional Competencies

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation
  • Preference will be given to those with recent real estate property management experience
  •  Public accounting experience with a CPA designation and/or MBA is preferred
  • Strong ERP systems experience
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google suite
  • Excellent knowledge in assessing, developing and implementing internal controls
  • Proven experience building, developing, mentoring and inspiring a high performing professional accounting team
  • Proficiency with real property financial software such as Yardi
  • Understanding of US GAAP
