Job Description:
The Puget Sound Refinery Senior Finance Advisor
works closely with the refinery department leaders and teams and are responsible for the oversight and coordination of key financial activities to drive cost transparency and control, increase process efficiencies, and support strategic decision-making in alignment with site priorities and vision. The primary functions of the finance advisor are to: utilize internal and external data to continuously identify opportunities to improve competitiveness, drive business performance through insights from financial analysis, provide meaningful appraisal of business performance, and contribute to improvement efforts to make the site more competitive and profitable.
Accountabilities:
Drive high-quality input to the bi-annual Solomon benchmarking exercise and assist teams in analyzing & interpreting Solomon results.
​Creatively use internal and external information to assess competitiveness of performance and to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Analyze cost performance and lead cost performance appraisal discussions.
​Utilize cost data and other operational performance data to help identify and prioritize areas for improvement,
​Provide commercial and financial support to business decisions.
​Engage with refinery staff and department leaders to build detailed understanding of business processes, operational levers, and cost drivers/levers.
​Work with colleagues in the operating expense and capital investment space to contribute to the creation of credible and competitive business plans, including short and long-term improvement plans.
​Work with colleagues in the operating expense and capital investment space to contribute to the creation of credible and competitive latest estimates throughout the year, bringing transparency to threats and opportunities which could impact delivery.
​Advise on accounting implications of business issues and decisions.
The Puget Sound Refinery is located in Anacortes Washington, approximately halfway between Seattle and Vancouver. The refinery processes 145 kboepd of crude oil, largely sourced from Alaska's North Slope and Canada. Primary products produced include gasoline, diesel, and jet that are largely sold into the Pacific Northwest market.
The Finance Advisor role would primarily focus on cost competitiveness and comparative performance activities undertaken with the intent of generating efficiencies within PSR's operating expense target.
This is a senior level position
, with likely first assignment at a manufacturing site supporting a refinery or chemical business. Site experience provides a great opportunity to learn one of Shell’s core businesses, apply financial skills to help that business succeed, and gain experience which will translate to a versatile and rewarding career within Shell
. It is intended to be a jump-off point for a diverse and mobile career
within Shell Finance, hence applicants should be willing to relocate, at least within the U.S

Requirements:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
​Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration; Sound understanding of basic accounting and financial reporting principles
Minimum five (5) years of experience in Finance or Accounting/Controllership
Strong financial acumen and communication skills; ability to relay financial information and concepts clearly to people with different backgrounds
Active curiosity to fully understand the business, understand how operational processes and performance impact the site financial performance, and pursue value opportunities
Strong business partnering skills; Ability to be a strong leader and work effectively in a multi-dimensional and diverse team
