Pasadena, CA — AccountingCrossing reports that the job market for accounting professionals remains robust. The accounting job board has seen a continuous rise in the demand for accounting professionals, with about a 125% increase in its total job count over the last eight months. AccountingCrossing currently has 63,000 job openings in its database, and the site foresees an extremely strong job market for accounting professionals in the near future.
“Accounting professionals have gained immense popularity in our capital markets system owing to the changing financial laws and corporate governance regulations – the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, for example — and continued growth in small- and mid-sized businesses. Many organizations have added more jobs in their accounting departments, and that’s obviously being reflected on AccountingCrossing,” says Harrison Barnes, CEO of AccountingCrossing.
The US Labor Department projects an 18% growth (between 2006 and 2016) in the job count for accountants and auditors combined, which is faster than the average for all occupations. The Labor Department also predicts an additional 226,000 jobs to be created in this sector within the next decade.
Additionally, a recent report by American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) found that the total number of accounting professionals recruited by both public and private accounting firms in 2007 jumped 83% over the 2004 count. AICPA also reported that 67% of the firms surveyed plan to boost their workforce numbers in the coming year.
The job prospects for recent accounting graduates are also bright. A survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) found that 58% of companies/firms plan to hire more new accounting graduates in 2008. Another survey by the NACE found that 2008 accounting graduates are being paid $49,085 salaries on average, which is reportedly one of the top salaries for new grads.
AccountingCrossing has also noted some of the most sought-after jobs in the accounting industry. These include tax manager jobs, audit jobs, international tax jobs, and CPA jobs. “We have also seen a growing demand for professionals with experience in hedge fund accounting,” adds Barnes.
The top job titles on AccountingCrossing in the last month have been:

I found a great position within a very short time. The position that I was able to secure was posted only through this job board. Otherwise I would have never had this opportunity. I'm very grateful that a close friend of mine told me about EmploymentCrossing.
