The accounting department is a division that deals with a broader field of accounting related jobs, like of the task of bookkeeping workers who focus on the specific type of record keeping they are employed to work with, and the nature of the business in which they deal with. Nearly all account and bookkeeping workers, however, use calculating machines, while others use the sophisticated computers. The history of account management jobs and bookkeeping activities have developed along the growth of business and industrial enterprises. Encyclopedias point out that the first known records of accounting activities date back to about 3000 B.C. and the people of the Middle East, such as what the Egyptians did. These people were employed to handle a system of mathematical and computing operations in order to keep on record all of the transactions involved in the trading. Everything that was taken out and entered in the warehouse was all accounted in a record book. The complexity of selling and trading brought the necessity of accounting and bookkeeping systems of an organization. It can be noted that sometime after the start of thirteenth century, the decimal numeration system came into being all throughout Europe, simplifying bookkeeping record systems. In fact, the merchants of Venice were credited with the invention of the double-entry bookkeeping method that is so widely used today.

Large companies may employ accounting workers to systematize, record, and compute many other types of information as well. Accounting clerks for instance usually perform many of their work operations by hand. However, they generally use adding machines or calculators for computational work. Accountants may also be responsible for setting up the bookkeeping system that is to be used in a business organization and for interpreting facts on some related accounting transactions.

Likewise, education is important asset to the individual seeking an account manager job. Employers require a college diploma and give preference to those who have included in their training business subjects such as business arithmetic, business machine operations, typing, and bookkeeping. Some employers seek those persons who have completed a full college curriculum.
