What's Hot about Being an Accountant?
Employment opportunities for accountant jobs will grow through 2016. Accountants are paid well too. That's what's hot about being an accountant and becoming one.
Why Take Accounting?
Accounting is the route to business success. Accountants have moved into prestigious positions as financial analysts and consultants in the accounting sphere. Accounting skills will be needed -- recession or no recession -- and offices need, not one accountant but dozens and hundreds if the business is a global conglomerate.
If you have an accounting degree and a CPA or CMA tucked in your belt, you wouldn't have a hard time getting a job. Big and small companies need accountants, new firms will be hiring accountants, and out there people need accounting services.
In business, the people who are given the chance at promotions are accountants. Why? It is because they have grasped the workings of the business' financial machinery and understand its complexities and their impact on business. That is why they are the people who are often called to business conferences. They know how the business is going on all fronts.
Why accounting? Apart from the opportunities waiting out there, the profession builds you up as a respected member of the corporate society. You earn the respect of your peers; after all, you have gone through a rigorous four-year college program that demanded exacting discipline. You also passed the CPA licensure exam.
The job is needed everywhere - locally as well as abroad. The profession also offers you the opportunity of working two jobs, as a hired employee and to be your own boss at the same time. Until the world quits business, there will always be a need for accountants.
Who All Need Accountants?
Who says that accountants are only for business organizations and government institutions? Business organizations require accountants with different specializations. They will need someone to take care of the payroll to make sure that proper deductions are made. They need accountants to keep track of their expenses and manage the money; they need accounting assistants to keep up with the volume of documentation, ad infinitum.
Which other organizations have need for accountants? The list would be too long but here are a few examples just to show how extensive is the need for these professionals: schools, hospitals, tourism industries, airlines, marine industries, insurance industries, green industries, entertainment industries, and information technology industries.
So if you thought that an accountant has the most unglamorous job, you might be surprised that accountants are hired by big hotels and posted in exotic places. There are perks too: travel, bonuses, and allowances. Now forget about the stereotypes that don thick glasses and work in a dimly lit dusty corner. They are housed in nice air-conditioned offices and equipped with the latest in accounting technology tools.
If you are evaluating your options for employment opportunities and have a way with numbers, then accounting is for you. How about considering this career option?

A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing.
